How to Use Claude for Client Communication for Legal Matters

The exact prompt, setup, and codes to get great results.

The Problem

Communicating legal matters to clients requires precision and empathy. Too much jargon confuses them, too little detail creates liability. The balance is hard.

The Prompt (Copy & Paste)

Draft a client communication about [LEGAL MATTER].

Client type: [INDIVIDUAL / BUSINESS / ORGANIZATION]
Matter: [WHAT THE LEGAL ISSUE IS]
Sensitivity: [HIGH / MEDIUM / LOW]
Action needed from client: [WHAT THEY NEED TO DO]
Deadline: [IF ANY]

Rules:
- Open with the key takeaway (don't bury the lede)
- Explain the legal concepts in plain English with one sentence of context
- Clearly state what action the client needs to take and by when
- If there are options, present them as a simple decision matrix
- Include risks of inaction
- Close with next steps and availability

Tone: Professional, reassuring but honest. Don't minimize real risks.
Length: Under 300 words for email, under 500 for letter.

Replace the [BRACKETED] placeholders with your specific details.

What You Get

A clear, professional client communication that balances legal precision with accessibility. The client knows exactly what's happening, what they need to do, and by when.
